Activities completed:
- Set up the networking platform for involvement of key stakeholders; The Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Transport, the Association of City Government of Indonesia and partner organizations.
- An Advisory Committee (AC) has been established since June 2009.
- A total of 10 cities that comply with the project's selection criteria have been included into the long list of potential cities to be included in the project. The long list then further cut into a short list of 5 most potential cities; Palembang, Padang, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Balikpapan.
- Those 5 cities have submitted the city documents required for the selection process upon the request made by the MoE.
- The MoE's working group has selected the 2 cities (Solo and Palembang) since early October 2009 as the participating cities for the project.
- The project team with the support from several well acknowledge international experts on transport and environment and also prominent local experts have contributed to develop a Road Map toward a Clean Air Plan in Palembang on early February 2010.
- An Implementing Agreement between GIZ and the Ministry of Environment (MoE) has been signed on 1 February 2010. The MoE is now the official counterpart from the Indonesian Government.
- Road Map report for Palembang has been completed and endorsed by the Mayor of Palembang in June 2010.
- Review for CNG conversion programme in Palembang was conducted in cooperation with ANGVA (Asia Pacific Natural Gas Vehicle Association in July 2010)
- A short term international expert visit to review the current air quality monitoring in Palembang has been done in August 2010, the recommendations are: (i) establishment of basic decision on the concept of air quality monitoring in Palembang, (ii) provision of institutional framework, (iii) technical upgrade on the monitoring stations, (iv) training package for city officials, (v) preparation of the first year indicative measurement program, (vi) preparation of emission inventory, (vii) organization of transfer of additional data form, (viii) agreement and decision on medium term monitoring concept for Palembang
Planned activities up to April 2011:
- The Road Map report for Solo (Surakarta) has been refined by the international expert (Mr. John Ernst), the national consultant (Dr. Waty Suhadi), and the project team. It will be completed in February 2011. As the other GIZ projects are targeting the City of Solo, the project aims to collaborate with those projects e.g. the Sustainable Urban Transport Improvements Project in Indonesia (SUTIP), Policy Advise for Environment and Climate Change Program (PAKLIM).
- The appraisal mission for Emission Inventory development for Palembang was organised from 18-20 January 2011. The mission gave opportunities to the City’s Official and the universities to discuss on methodology and data collection with the professional from the Senate of Berlin (Dr. Annette Rauterberg).
- National Workshop for Indonesia is scheduled in April 2011.
